A recently published study by UBC assistant professor Patricia Janssen confirms that acupuncture can be used to reduce substance abuse among addicts.
In a period of 3 months and a total of 2,700 treatments, most participants reported the following:
- a reduction in the severity of withdrawal symptoms (such as shakes, stomach cramps and suicidal feelings); and
- those who attended at least 4 treatments: a dramatic decrease in drug use.
